What happens if I lose my phone?
Quarry cannot recover records from a lost phone. Save a Full Backup ZIP somewhere outside the device regularly, especially after a trip. It includes records, drafts, captions, and original photos and can be restored in a compatible Quarry build. A CSV is useful for a spreadsheet, but CSV alone cannot restore your journal. There is no automatic Quarry cloud backup.

Why $19.99 when a notebook costs $5—or a notes app is free?
A notebook or a free notes app may be all you need. Quarry puts searchable trips, photos, location pins, conditions, and records from past seasons together, with dedicated Range and Dog Training journals. The US App Store price is $19.99 once, with no recurring charges.
Is my data really private?
Your journal records and imported photos stay inside Quarry on your device unless you choose to export or share them. There is no Quarry account, cloud archive, advertising profile, or social feed. Optional online maps, place search, and weather send limited requests to their providers; they do not include your journal writing or photos. See the privacy policy for details.
Do I need an internet connection?
No connection is needed for core journaling: save and review trips, notes, imported photos, and recorded conditions offline. Online maps, place search, and new weather lookups need a connection. If weather is unavailable, enter conditions manually and keep writing.
What if Quarry is no longer supported?
Your saved journal is stored on your device, and core journaling does not depend on a Quarry account or server. Keep regular Full Backup exports and a CSV copy so you have your records and photos outside the app. Future operating-system compatibility cannot be guaranteed; a one-time purchase is not a promise of lifetime support.

Does Quarry include range and dog training journals?
Yes. The Range Journal keeps firearm profiles, ammunition, round counts, groups, maintenance, malfunctions, notes, and photos together. The Dog Training Journal keeps a profile for each dog with skills, repetitions, successes, conditions, notes, photos, and progress.
How do the outdoor quotes work?
Quarry shows outdoor quotes on the home screen. Tap a quote to see another selection from the collection. The website includes a small interactive preview with a few favorites.
Is Quarry available on Android?
An Android version for phones and tablets is in development and testing. It is not yet publicly available on Google Play. The current download link is for iPhone and iPad.
How does Quarry work when I’m out of cell range?
Quarry is offline-first: your trip details, notes, pins, outcomes, gear, and imported photos are saved inside the app on your device, so you do not need a connection to keep journaling. Built-in guided prompts also work offline. Network-dependent services such as optional weather retrieval may be unavailable; enter conditions manually and continue recording your trip.
Does Quarry sync my trips to a cloud account later?
No. Quarry has no account system or Quarry-hosted cloud archive, so there is no background sync queue waiting to upload your records when service returns. Your local archive stays on the device unless you deliberately create an export and share or save it somewhere you control.
Can I place a hunting, fishing, hiking, or camp pin without location access?
Yes. You can place pins manually. If you choose Use Current Location, Quarry asks iOS for location permission and saves the selected coordinates with the local record. You can deny or revoke access in iOS Settings and continue using manual pins.
What happens to weather information when I am offline?
Weather is optional and only loads after you request it. Newer builds use MET Norway forecasts and Meteostat historical observations; earlier iOS versions used Open-Meteo. If the provider cannot be reached or a sample is unavailable, enter conditions manually. Quarry is not a weather-warning service; use official forecasts for safety decisions.

Are my hunting and fishing spots truly private and stored locally?
Your trips, coordinates, notes, species or sightings, outcomes, gear, and imported photos are stored inside Quarry’s local app container. Quarry does not receive or host that archive, does not require an account, and does not sell personal information or build an advertising profile from your activity.
Does Quarry ever send a location off my device?
Optional online maps share the viewed area and network information with map providers. Place search sends the search query to the platform geocoding provider. In newer builds, requested forecasts send MET Norway a pin rounded to two decimal places; historical lookups send nearby station IDs and a year to Meteostat. Providers also receive your IP address. Earlier iOS versions used Apple MapKit and Open-Meteo. Journal writing and photos are not included in those requests.
Are imported field photos uploaded anywhere?
Quarry copies selected photos into its local storage and does not upload them to map, weather, or assistance providers. Full Backup includes the original photos, captions, records, and drafts. You choose where to save or share the export, and that destination’s terms apply.
Can Quarry support recover a deleted trip or lost archive?
Support cannot remotely access or restore your local journal. Compatible newer builds can restore a Full Backup ZIP that you saved, and importing keeps the previous journal locally for recovery. Drafts, shared photo references, and that recovery copy may retain content after a saved record is removed. Keep an exported backup outside the app before uninstalling or clearing storage.

How can I export my field notes for archiving?
In Settings, choose Full Backup to prepare a ZIP containing your current journal, drafts, captions, and original photos, then save it somewhere you control. Earlier versions may call the export Complete Archive. Spreadsheet CSV is a separate table export; CSV alone cannot restore a journal.
What should I do before deleting Quarry or moving to a new device?
Save a full backup outside the app before deleting Quarry, clearing storage, or moving devices. Check that your destination has the saved file. Compatible Quarry builds can import the ZIP after review; import replaces the current journal and keeps the previous one locally for recovery. There is no Quarry cloud recovery service.
Does creating an export send my archive to Quarry?
No. The export is created on your device, and you choose where to save or share it. A selected cloud drive or sharing service receives the copy you send there. Quarry does not receive a hosted copy of your journal.
Which export should I choose?
Choose Full Backup ZIP for a portable copy with records, drafts, captions, and original photos. Use the ZIP to restore a journal in a compatible Quarry build. Choose Spreadsheet CSV when you want a table to open in a spreadsheet. Earlier versions may label their full export Complete Archive.

What the current Quarry documentation says—and does not require.
What is the process for activating a Quarry license before heading into the field?
There is no separate Quarry license key or activation process. Download Quarry through Apple’s App Store and follow the app’s Terms of Use and Apple’s applicable rules. Core journaling works without a Quarry account or subscription.
Can I transfer my Quarry license to another person or account?
No. Quarry’s Terms describe the app license as personal and non-transferable. It covers use on Apple devices you own or control, subject to Apple’s rules. It cannot be sold, assigned, or handed to another person as a separate Quarry license.
Can I use Quarry on another Apple device I own?
Yes, subject to Apple’s applicable App Store rules. Installing Quarry does not automatically move local journal records. Save a full backup before changing devices, then import it using a compatible Quarry build.
How do I configure an API key for maps, weather, or guided journaling?
You do not need a personal API key. Newer builds offer optional MapLibre online maps, MET Norway forecasts, Meteostat historical weather, and on-device journaling assistance. Earlier iOS versions used Apple MapKit and Open-Meteo. Source credits are available in the app.
Do personalized journal prompts send my notes to an external AI API?
No. Built-in prompts work offline. On supported Apple devices, optional personalization may use Apple’s on-device Foundation Models framework with the trip context currently shown in the app. Quarry does not send that journal context to Quarry or an external AI provider.

Does Quarry verify seasons, permits, boundaries, or private land access?
No. You are responsible for checking official hunting, fishing, camping, land-access, licensing, wildlife, fire, closure, and safety rules. Quarry does not grant land access or verify that a season, boundary, permit, or condition is current.
Can I rely on Quarry for navigation or emergencies?
No. Quarry is a field journal, not an emergency, navigation, survival, medical, or weather-warning service. Maps, pins, weather, moon phases, and generated prompts may be delayed, unavailable, or inaccurate. Carry the right equipment and use official sources and your own judgment.
